The University of Tasmania is calling for applications for its 2026/2027 Dianne Eerden Elite Research Scholarship. The scholarship is intended to award top-up scholarship for students who have been offered admission into PhD programs, which will cover tuition and living stipends.
The late Dianne Eerden in her Will donated huge amount of money to the University of Tasmania to be used for a scholarship or bursary for female students in the neurosurgery or neuroscience studies.

About Dianne Eerden Elite Scholarship 2026
The scholarship worth a total of $290,144 donated by the late Dianne Eerden to the University of Tasmania Foundation.
The Scholarship will be awarded as a top-up scholarship for applicants offered admission as a PhD candidate, with a base living allowance stipend, or for current PhD candidates already holding or eligible for a base living allowance stipend at the University rate.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for the Dianne Eerden Scholarship award the applicant must be:
- A female graduate
- An applicant applying for a PhD and a base living allowance stipend at the University rate, or a current PhD candidate who has been offered or awarded a base stipend at the University rate
- An applicant applying for PhD, with a research project in the area of neurosurgery or neuroscience.
Selection Process
The Scholarship selection process is determined and approved by the Pro Vice-Chancellor for Graduate Research, with specific regard to the eligibility criteria
The Scholarship covers up to 3.5 years of the candidate’s research degree. Where the a candidate’s program exceeds 3.5 years, the candidate shall bear the additional costs.
The scholarship is also subject to the candidate:
- Continuing in full-time study, or in part-time study if approved by the Graduate Research Office;
Continuing to make satisfactory academic progress as determined by the Graduate Research Office; and,
The awardee will provide the following to the Advancement Office, which will be shared with the Donor/Custodian of the Scholarship:
- A thank you letter and brief project summary upon scholarship acceptance; and,
- Project updates provided every 6-12 months for the duration of the Scholarship.
