Aarhus University Scholarships for International Students
Scholarships and Grants at Aarhus University
Aarhus University (AU) offers a select number of scholarships and tuition waivers to outstanding applicants from outside the European Union (EU) and European Economic Area (EEA). These opportunities are available only for students required to pay tuition fees.
International applicants can benefit from Danish state scholarships, external scholarships, and student loan programmes designed to make studying in Denmark more affordable.
Danish State Scholarships for Non-EU/EEA Students
Aarhus University provides a limited number of Danish scholarships funded by the Danish government. The university does not have its own independent scholarship funds, so all awards come directly from state funding.
No separate scholarship application is required. When you apply for a Master’s degree programme at AU, your application is automatically considered for scholarship eligibility—provided you apply before the deadline.
Scholarship Coverage – What’s Included?
The benefits vary depending on the faculty and programme:
Full or partial tuition fee waiver
Tuition waiver + monthly grant for living expenses (in some programmes)
Some faculties may offer only tuition waivers. In such cases, AU supports students in finding relevant student jobs to cover living costs.
Note: A residence permit in Denmark requires proof of sufficient financial support if you only receive a tuition waiver. More details are available at the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration.
Scholarships by Faculty
Faculty of Arts – Tuition waiver + monthly stipend
Aarhus BSS (Business and Social Sciences) – Tuition waiver + monthly stipend
Faculty of Natural Sciences – Tuition waiver only
Faculty of Technical Sciences – Tuition waiver only
How to Apply for Aarhus University Scholarships
You don’t need a separate application for the scholarship. Your admission application will automatically be reviewed for both:
Scholarship eligibility
Scholarships are tied to a specific Master’s degree programme and cannot be transferred.
Deadlines: 15 January (summer intake) and 15 September (winter intake).
Selection Process for Scholarships
Scholarships are highly competitive and awarded to the most academically qualified applicants.
Typically, only one or two scholarships are available per Master’s programme.
Some faculties prioritize applicants from specific countries or programmes.
Scholarship offers come with admission letters, and applicants must accept within a short deadline.
If not selected, applicants receive a tuition fee notification.
Natural and Technical Sciences Scholarship Selection
The Faculty of Natural Sciences and Faculty of Technical Sciences provide a small number of full tuition waivers.
Priority countries include:
• India
• Indonesia
• Vietnam
• Turkey
• USA
• Colombia
• Mexico
Note: The award process continues until 1 April (summer intake) or 1 November (winter intake). If no waiver is offered by these dates, tuition fees must be paid.
