Preference is given to candidates with experience in teaching, research, or the public sector in Pakistan.

Standardized Test Requirements

  • GRE General Test is mandatory for all applicants

Service Commitment & Bond Requirement

All selected candidates must sign a contract with USEFP. Additionally, successful PhD candidates are required to sign a bond with the HEC.

This agreement obligates scholars to:

• Return to Pakistan immediately after completing their studies

• Serve the country for a period equal to the duration of the scholarship

The service requirement is redeemable on a year-for-year basis, with a minimum of two years. Scholars who fulfill this obligation are not required to repay any funds.

  • Application review & interviews: Continue until August
  • Results announcement: Mid-September
  • University placement process: Until April
  • Visa interviews: June / July / August
  • Departure to the U.S.: From July onwards, depending on university reporting dates

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Residing in Pakistan throughout the application and selection process
  • Committed to returning and serving Pakistan after program completion
  • Master’s applicants: 16 years of education

Ineligibility Criteria

The following individuals are not eligible:

  • Dual U.S./Pakistan nationals
  • Applicants with a spouse or child (over 18 years) who is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Employees or contractors of the Fulbright organization, U.S. Department of State, or USAID, including their immediate family members
  • Individuals who have previously received any Fulbright scholarship
  • Applicants currently studying in the U.S. or holding a work, residence, or student visa in any country
